  • Rangers' Luis Curvelo: Gets MLB deal from Texas

The Rangers signed Curvelo to a one-year contract Wednesday.

Curvelo has yet to advance past the Double-A level, but he's netted a major-league deal after collecting a 2.57 ERA and 78:18 K:BB over 66.2 innings at Double-A Arkansas in the Mariners organization in 2024. While the 24-year-old could still begin the 2025 campaign back in the minors, it would seem he has a good shot to debut during the upcoming season.

  • Rangers' Josh Sborz: Multiple opinions on shoulder

Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Monday that Sborz has been examined by multiple shoulder experts but has not yet made a decision on a course of action, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Sborz dealt with a right shoulder problem off and on throughout the 2024 campaign and ended the season on the injured list with what the team simply referred to as shoulder fatigue. It would seem as though surgery could be one possibility Sborz is considering, although Young didn't divulge specifics in regards to what injury exactly the reliever is dealing with. With Kirby Yates, David Robertson and Jose Leclerc all becoming free agents, the health of Sborz is paramount.

  • Rangers' Roansy Contreras: Claimed by Texas

The Rangers claimed Contreras off waivers from the Angels on Thursday, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.

Contreras looked in 2022 like he might be part of the Pirates' rotation for a while, but he's collected a 5.47 ERA and 111:63 K:BB over 136.2 innings since the start of the 2023 season and is now in his third organization since May. The righty mostly pitched in relief in 2024, but the Rangers could stretch him back out during spring training.

  • Rangers' Adolis Garcia: Rehabbing sprained patella

Garcia will rehab for the next eight weeks after being diagnosed with a sprained left patella tendon in his knee, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Garcia battled knee soreness during the final few weeks of the regular season. The good news is surgery has been deemed unnecessary, and the outfielder is expected to go through a normal offseason program after the eight weeks are up. Garcia slashed a disappointing .224/.284/.400 in 2024, although he did still hit 25 homers and steal 11 bases.
